
Ainsley Newson is Professor of Bioethics at Sydney Health Ethics, University of Sydney. Her internationally recognised research focuses on ethical aspects of genomics and human reproduction, with the aim to ensure these technologies are developed and used appropriately. Ainsley has had an interest in mitochondrial donation since similar techniques emerged in the early 2000’s. She has published numerous academic papers on this technology; participated in public debate in Australia, the United Kingdom and Singapore; appeared in front of the 2018 Commonwealth Senate Inquiry on mitochondrial donation; and was a member of the NHMRC’s Mitochondrial Donation Expert Working Committee.
