I am an anaesthetist and a very proud Mum of two little boys, Nate and Toby. I’m also a widow.
Dan died suddenly, and very unexpectedly, in November 2018 from a spontaneous coronary artery dissection, at the age of 38. We met at medical school in London and moved to Brisbane together in 2008. Nate was 18 months old when Dan died and we were actively trying to achieve a second pregnancy at that time. The thought to posthumously retrieve sperm was not mine but I am thankful every single day that it was presented to me as an option.
I will always feel I am missing a part of myself because Dan isn’t here but I will be forever grateful that I have been able to welcome Toby into our family, despite Dans physical absence.
