Pandas

Adelaide has welcomed two of it’s most anticipated new residents – Giant Pandas Wang-Wang and Funi.

The male and female adult Giant Pandas enjoyed their much anticipated public debut at Adelaide Zoo on December 14, 2009.

Located adjacent to Adelaide’s magnificent Botanic Gardens in the centre of the city, the Adelaide Zoo has undertaken a major renovation in preparation for the pandas’ arrival.

The loan of the pandas occurs under an agreement on cooperation in giant panda conservation, part of a worldwide program that aims to ensure the long term survival of the iconic species

A key outcome of the pandas’ time in Adelaide is to assist with the conservation of this endangered species and it is hoped at least one panda cub will be born during their stay here.

Featuring more than 1800 animals, Adelaide Zoo also offers exclusive behind the scenes tours, enabling visitors to get up close and personal with a variety of creatures, including lemurs, squirrel monkeys, penguins, orangutans and lions. Behind the scenes tours of the Giant Panda exhibit are expected to start in February 2010.
